TRADE AND CRAFTS THEN TO NOW

The causes of the Industrial Revolution are widely explained elsewhere (I can wax lyrical myself on this topic but this is not the place). It’s effect is seen in industrial archaeology – eg  mills and chimneys in the north of England and terraced housing countrywide.

Countries like China and India are experiencing their own industrial revolution and the whole world is facing the internet industrial revolution.

Our ancestors had to adapt (just as we do today) and, because of the passage of time and technology, it’s difficult for us to envisage what our ancestors actually did.

In east Asia, trade and craft that our ancestors would have recognised are still carried out on a day to day basis.  I hope these photos offer a taste of how your forebears would have worked.
